Importance of loyalty and friendship
Friendship is something that we all deal with in our daily lives. We all have friends at school, in the neighborhood, at places of work and other institutions in our societies. Friendship may mean different things to different people but what matters in friendship is loyalty. Being or having a loyal friend is a vital part of being a good friend. We all have read various books and watched movies that often talk about the importance of loyalty and friendship. However, loyalty and friendship are things that many of us take for granted. We often let go of friends that matter in our lives. Little do we know that loyalty and friendship are of great significance, and we need them in our daily lives as one day we may realize that we are all alone. This is the time when we realize that we need people who are ready to listen to us and understand our ideas. The following life experience story will elaborate more on the importance of loyalty and friendship.
Joel and I had been best friends since childhood. Having lived in the same neighborhood, our parents were close family friends and did most things together. Joel is a good hearted and kind person, and this is what made me like him even more. He has a humble person since childhood, and this makes people in the neighborhood admire his character. Joel and I attended many events together; there is no single time in my memory that I attended an occasion without Joel. We went to the same school and having been age-mates attended the same class and participated in the same school activities. This made us even closer as we spent almost all the time together. We went to the same church in the neighborhood, went to swimming and other sports during the weekend together. Joel could spend at our place, and I could do the same. Our parents had no issue with that.
We remained loyal and true to each other for a very long time. It was only until a few weeks ago that our friendship was faced with challenges. There is this one thing that Joel and I began to disagree on, that is, the issue of me getting involved with a group of some of our neighbors. Joel had insisted that the boys were not good and were involved in criminal behaviors. I strongly disagreed with him as I believed that the boys were good, and I would enjoy their company. It is not that I did not want Joel’s company, but I also needed some other friends. Both Joel and I shared other friends who were not closer to us than we were to each other. So the idea of me getting involved with people he did not like was really a disappointment to him. The boys in the neighborhood often went partying which I liked so much and therefore, I thought we would have a good time.
Joel got mad as I had failed to listen to him but still told me that I was his best friend, even though he did not support what I was doing. As for me, I felt much betrayal and looked at it differently. If Joel was really a true friend, he would support me in all my decisions. That is what I thought. By this time, I had forgotten of all the incidents that Joel had been there for me and saved my life at other times. The beautiful memories that Joel and I had enjoyed since childhood were long forgotten to me, although they remained important to Joel. By this time, we were not as close as we had been before. Even our parents began to question, but we both pretended that all was well. If I had known what would follow, I would have listened to my best friend and stayed away from the boys whom I thought were my good friends.
It was on a Friday when Dennis, one of the boys from the neighborhood invited me for a party at the countryside. I felt excited as I would enjoy doing what I had always loved to do, partying. Joel had a bad feeling about this and told me not to attend the party as his instincts were very strong. On the other hand, I felt that Joel was only jealous of me, and I had set up my mind to attend the party. Not even my parents or my best friend, Joel, would stop me from attending the party. Joel insisted that I should take care of myself then since I had no plans to change my mind. So I picked up my stuff and joined Dennis and the other boys to go to the party. Dennis had a car so he would drive us to our destination, where the party would be held.
To my surprise, when I got into the car my hands and legs were tied up and my mouth filled with dirty rags so I would not shout. I was taken to some place in the middle of the nearby forest. I was brought to a little hut, and only then I realized that it was a kidnapping mission. Brian, another boy in the group took up my phone and called my parents asking for a ransom in order to release me. Without our knowledge, Joel had called the police and had followed us closely, and before the boys had finished calling my parents, the police had arrived and arrested the boys. The police informed our parents that they did need to worry about a thing. Joel, who had come along with the police untied me and hugged me telling me that he cared for and loved me so much. The boys were taken to custody while Joel and I went back home and joined our parents in tears of joy. Since then, I learnt the importance of friendship and that is why Joel and I are still close friends and not willing to let go our friendship at whatever cost.

Once the first novelty is worn off, the members of this circle will be no more interesting than your old friends. Why should they be? You were not looking for virtue or kindness or loyalty or humour or learning or wit or any of the things that can really be enjoyed. You merely wanted to be “in.” And that is a pleasure that cannot last. As soon as your new associates have been staled to you by custom, you will be looking for another Ring. The rainbow’s end will still be ahead of you. The old ring will now be only the drab background for your endeavor to enter the new one.
